On going classes are offered in Carole's studio where individual attention is paid to each student. The sculpture course is designed to be directed by whatever direction the student feels drawn to. I follow the student rather than having the student follow me. The class is kept small enough to make it viable to have one student working on a relief sculpture, another carving from AAC and yet another building an armature for a figure to be made from plastiline. Beginning mold making, is a feasible project as well as casting in a variety of materials.

Each class is ongoing so you are welcome to join at any time. To make sure there is room and because there are a few times of recess throughout the year, please call or email to make sure a class is running. A six week commitment is required, though once the student gets started, they usually stay much longer.

Initial, small project materials included, just bring yourself and your openness to discovering your own creative ability. Discover the art within you.

Since many folks have stated they have a hard time making it to a class that is in the evening, especially on a week night, I have decided to add another class on Sunday afternoon.

When opening to one's own creativity, resistance can be pretty powerful. All kinds of excuses can come up as to why it won't or can't work to make it to a class. I know that when I was beginning, I was so good at finding reasons why I didn't have the time. My excuses were very loud and convincing. I had to make a conscious decision to spend a certain amount of time on it, otherwise it quickly became something I had in my mind that I could do, rather than something that I was doing.

Fear of your creation not being 'good' art, is one of the loudest excuses not to create it. Giving in to it means you don't have to risk finding out if you could make it.

Carole Murphy, an Oregon sculptor, offers workshops in Figurative Sculpture through movement, dance and visualization exercises. By embracing the spirit within, we will bring to form that which has been unavailable to the conscious mind.

This all day workshop introduces you to or re-establishes your connection with your right brain and brings the creative spirit forward. The groups are guided by the principles that we all have the innate capacity to create; and creativity goes beyond the arts to include how we make choices and live our lives. By connecting to your creative wisdom, you will begin to find a doorway to further expression in the world you live in. As you integrate this experience, you will begin to find yourself awakening new levels of spontaneity, playfulness and joy.

You will learn to establish your own safe haven from which to allow the creative process to grow. Begin to move beyond the fear that prevents you from being and living all that you are. The workshop is designed to provide opportunities to go within for renewal, insight, and inspiration; communicate with your deepest self and to explore new ways of expressing oneself. As a group, we are witnesses to each other's journeys, supporting and encouraging each other as we create an atmosphere that is caring, non-hierarchical, and non-judgmental. We respect and honor the images that emerge in body movement and in sculpture while opening the doors to the transformational process of art making and creative expression. As we begin to see our creative expression, access to a world where personal images can emerge from deep within.
